The school was organized by local parents and professional teachers to give Russian kids ages 5 to 14 an opportunity to learn reading and writing in their native language as well as art and some other topics. It supplements but not replaces regular Canadian schools.

The classes take place in the Greek Orthodox Church, 38 Purcell Cove Rd, Halifax, lower parking entrance, every Tuesday, from 5:30pm to 7:45pm, September to May.

We have four grades at this time: Primary (who just started to learn how to read and write in Russian, approx. 4 to 6 year old), Grade 1 (who can already read and write, approx. 5 to 7 year old), Grade 2 (approx. 7 to 10 year old), and Grade 3 (10 to 14 year old).

The cost is $60 per month for one child or $100 per month for two children from the same family. About $40 per year will also be collected for art supplies.

We would like to ask parents the following:

• Please arrive 5-10 min in advance so your children can get ready and take their seats before the first lesson begins.
• Please make sure that your child has all the required textbooks, notebooks, homework and writing supplies.
• Please bring in indoor shoes during the winter time.
• ItТs good to provide some snack (but not a messy one!) for your child for a recess.

Future Plans

In the future, we would also like to have some other subjects in the school, such as:

• Russian Literature
• Russian History
• Geography
• Music
• Theatre Group
• Parent+Tot Play Group (2 to 4 years old)
