New Year Party

In continuation of our tradition, the Russian Society of Maritimes organizes New Year Party for kids- 2012

When: January 1st, 2012 (Sunday), 4pm

Where: St George Greek Orthodox Church hall (38 Purcells Cove Rd, Halifax)

Entrance fee: $15 for families with kids or $10 for families without kids

The program:
  • Concert
  • Stage play "Cinderella" performed by the students of Russian School of Halifax
  • Grandfather Frost and Snow-Maiden (Ded Moroz and Snegourochka)
  • Games, crafts and dances
  • Russian book/DVD fair
  • Potluck dinner

Parents should bring a small wrapped gift to be given by the Grandfather Frost to their kids.

Please bring a dish for potluck dinner. Tea, coffee, juice and soft drinks will be provided.

We will be glad to see everybody! Especially students who study Russian language and culture.

Annual general meeting 2011

AGM is open to all RSM members and anyone else who wants to participate in the society's work. It will take place on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at 3pm.

Address: 45 Vimy Ave, Halifax (the very beginning of Lacewood Dr. near Centennial Arena), buzz the Common Room at the lower level.

If you want to become a new member of RSM please contact us in advance by email or regular mail with such a request so we would be able to determine a quorum at the beginning of the meeting.

Multicultural Festival 2011

This year, the Multicultural Festival will take not three but four days, from June 30 to July 3.

Here is our list of activities:

  1. Russian sales and exhibition booth - all four days
  2. Eastern European dances by "Souvenir" folk dance ensemble from the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts (Gypsy, Hava Nagila, Spanish, Hungarian, Russian, Hopak) - Friday, July 1, 11am to noon
  3. "My Culture" Workshop: Traditional Russian Dolls - Friday, July 1, at 4pm
  4. Traditional Dress Show at the Closing Ceremony - Sunday, July 3, at 5pm

Our volunteers are going to wear traditional Russian costumes, sell souvenirs, provide a "Your name in Russian" service, have a Matryoshka face-in-the-hole board for funny photos, advertise the Russian School, greet new people and make new friends!


 
2011-2012 academic year

The next school year at the Russian School is coming soon. The time and location are the same: in the Greek Orthodox Church in Halifax, on Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 7:45pm, from September 2011 to May 2012. Children 5 to 14 years old are accepted. Please contact us by July 15, 2011 to register.


 
New Year Kids Party 2011

When:

the entrance is on the left, from the lower parking lot

Cost:
$10 per family

Please brick a snack for our potluck lunch and small inexpensive presents for your children (up to $10-15), wrapped and marked with child's first and last name in Russian.
